William Emmett 'Billy' Smith

William Emmett “Billy” Smith, 79 years old, died Sunday August 21, 2016, at his home.

Billy was born August 31, 1936, in Nash County to the late Mack Merrill and Mary Alice Batts Smith.

After graduating from Rocky Mount High School, he moved to Roanoke Rapids where he met and married the love of his life, Judy Powell Smith. They celebrated their 58th anniversary August 2, 2016.
Mr. Smith was owner and operator of Carolina Plumbing Service until his retirement. He was a licensed electrician, plumber and master builder. He took much pride in his building skills and craftsmanship.
He was a long time member of Smith United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Jessie Harrell Powell Patterson, and three bothers-in-law Buzz Tilley, Bill Hux and Charles Roach.
Billy is survived by his loving wife, Judy, two sons, William (Tammy) Smith and Greg (Susan) Smith, four grandchildren, Jessica Smith, Will Smith, Katie (Josh) Spragins, and Clay Smith. He is also survived by one great grandchild, Ethan Byrd, brother, Waverly (Barbara) Smith of Raleigh, sister, Judy Smith of Goldsboro, nephew, Scott Smith, nieces, Michelle Smith Hazard, Amanda Tilley, sisters-in-law, Erma Hux, Anne (Howell) Draper, Louise Roach, brothers-in-law, Bobby (Gwen) Powell and William (Lynn) Powell. He is also survived by a host of many other nieces and nephews and special friend, Mike Ivey.
The family would like to thank the Community Home Care and Hospice.
Visitation will be held at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service Monday, August 22, from 7:00-9:00 and at other times at 113 Blue Water Court. A celebration of life will be at Smith United Methodist Church, 1215 Smith Church Road, Roanoke Rapids, Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at 2:00 with the Reverends Rochele Bailey and Wayne Marshall officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Smith UMC.
