Lonnie Macon Harris Jr.

Lonnie Macon Harris, Jr., 72, died Saturday, September 3, 2016, at his home while surrounded by his family.

Lonnie was born, May 30, 1944, in Halifax County to the late Lonnie M. Harris, Sr. and Ida Moohn Harris. He was a strong, hardworking man who loved his grandbabies. Lonnie was a member of the Army National Guard and a longtime member of Lake Gaston Christian Life Center in Ebony, where he loved singing with the choir. He also sang bass with his gospel singing group, Revelation. In addition to his parents, Lonnie was preceded in death by his sisters, Constance Bishop, Josephine Moore, and Martha Daniel.
Surviving is his wife, the love of his life for 50 years, Barbara S. Harris of the home; his children, Robert “Bob” Jones and fiancé, Alba Rivera, Adonna Harris, both of Valentines, VA, Lonnie M. “Lil Lonnie” Harris, III and wife, Holley, of Roanoke Rapids, and Tim Harris and wife, Teresa, of Valentines, VA; his sisters, Ida Powell and husband, Roy, of Roanoke Rapids and Estelle “Lilly” Vaughan of Richmond. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren, six great grandchildren and his faithful and loving sidekick, his dog, Daisy.
The family will receive friends at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service Wednesday, September 7, 2016 from 7-9 pm and all other times at the home of his son, Lil Lonnie. Dr. David R. Lively, Pastor will conduct funeral services in the chapel at Hockaday Thursday, September 8, 2016, at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery, Roanoke Rapids.
