
Maebell Carroll Rooker, 95, died Monday, May 08, 2017, at Halifax Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Rooker was born in Brunswick County, VA, November 27, 1921, to the late George N. Carroll and Nannie Carroll.
She was a hard worker on the family farm and loved to crochet. Her family was most important in her life and they always came first. If you came to her home, you were going to sit and eat; she loved cooking and you never left her home hungry.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rooker was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas Rooker, great granddaughter, Donna Darlene Keeter and great-great grandson, Joshua Smith.
Surviving are her son, James Thomas Rooker, Jr. and wife, Myrtie, of Emporia; daughters, Corene Rooker Poythress of Littleton and Myrtle Rooker Lynch Pierce of Roanoke Rapids; brother, George N. Carroll and wife, Frances, of Gaston; grandchildren, Melvin Poythress and wife, Tammy, of Gaston, John Poythress and wife, Tina, Barbara Keeter and husband, Bobby, both of Roanoke Rapids, Wanda Tart and husband, Donald, of Littleton, Rita Tart and husband, Andy, Jerry W. Lynch and wife, Debra, Billy Lynch, all of Roanoke Rapids, Ginger Hargrave and husband, Andy, of Dinwiddie, Johnny Ray Rooker and wife Robin, of Emporia. Also surviving are 24 great grandchildren, 29 great-great grandchildren, and 1 great-great-great grandson, Dawson. Also surviving are many, many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service from 7-9 pm and all other times at her daughter’s home, 178 Fairlane Dr., Roanoke Rapids. Dave Chapman, Minister, will conduct funeral services in the chapel at Hockaday Thursday, May 11, 2017, at 2 pm. Interment will follow in Cedarwood Cemetry.
