Reber Paul "RP" Cribb

Reber Paul

Paul Cribb of Roanoke Rapids, NC, passed away on December 23rd after an extended illness.  He was surrounded by the family who cherished him.  

Paul Cribb was a true family man who loved his family.  He was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 49 years, Elizabeth Cribb.  He is survived by his wife Virginia Cribb who cherished him and extended his life with her love and devotion. He will be greatly missed by his children, Paul Cribb, Jr, and wife Donna, Suzie Cribb Harton and husband, John, Cindy Cribb Tyler, and husband Kevin, Troy Cribb and wife Donna, Kevin Cribb and wife Candal. He has grandchildren and great grandchildren who also held a place in his heart and will miss him dearly.

 Paul started and finished his career with Roses Stores.  He started in the stockroom with a $4 per pay period check, to being promoted to Assistant Manager, Manager, and Regional Manager,  He loved his work and his employees.

 He was a true Wolfpack fan with 3 of his children attending NC State. His NC State Christmas tree will shine brightly in his honor this year.

 There was a celebration of life held at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at 11:00 am, officiated by Rev. Jeremy Kobernat.

 Dad spent his youth at Kennedy Home in Kinston, NC, part of the Baptist Childrens Home, where the other orphans were his brothers and sisters and the first place he truly felt loved and wanted.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation made in his memory to Kennedy Home.  Please contact Brian Baltzell at bdbaltzell@bchfamily.org.  The funds will go directly to that facility.

Connie Glover Meadows

Connie Glover Meadows, 71, died peacefully Thursday, December 25, 2014, at Halifax Regional Medical Center.  

Connie was born in Watauga, TN, June 3, 1943, to the late Carl Glover and Beatrice Barnett Glover.

 In addition to her parents, Connie was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Meadows, Jr.  Also preceding her in death were infant twin brothers, and several aunts.

Surviving are her daughter, Martha Ellen Meadows, with whom she made her home for many years; special uncle, Aaron F. Glover and daughter, Diane Glover Carr and her family of Tennessee.  Also surviving is her “four-legged” granddaughter, Sable.

A special thanks goes to Dr. Mario Fiorilli and his nurse, Aimee Turner, for their excellent care, as well as, her Gentiva Home Health Team of Belinda Medlin, RN, Tim Allen, PT and Carol Hagan, CNA; also to special friends, Rosa Paschall of Wilson, NC, Loraine Coker of Gaston, NC, Christine Williams of Roanoke Rapids, NC and Sheila Shaw of Canton, NC.   

The family will have a private service to celebrate Connie’s life at a later date.

Ada Bliss Moore Kirkland

Ada Bliss Moore Kirkland, 104, died Saturday, December 27, 2014, at Liberty Commons Nursing & Rehab Center.  

Bliss was born near Conetoe, NC, Edgecombe County, August 29, 1910, one of eleven children born to Julia Martha Brown Moore and David Oscar Moore.  She was a member of Victory Praise and Worship Center in Scotland Neck, NC and later attended First Pentecostal Holiness church in Roanoke Rapids, NC after moving there.  From an early age, God blessed her with a musical ability to play the piano, a talent which she has shared through the years at the churches she has attended.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest L. Kirkland; parents, Julia Martha Brown Moore and David Oscar Moore; six sisters, Cora Elizabeth Moore, Mable Chessie Cobourn, Martha Delphia Moore, Annie Gertrude Hale, Mary Elizabeth Moore , and Lillie Butler Bradshaw; four brothers, Posie Linwood Moore, Raymond Oscar Moore, David Raymond Moore and Joseph T. Moore.

Surviving is her sister-in-law, Josephine Harris Moore, of Roanoke Rapids, NC and numerous nieces and nephews from multiple generations. 

The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 30, 2014 from 6-8 pm at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service in Roanoke Rapids, which is handling arrangements.  Rev. Tony Smith will conduct a graveside service at Trinity Episcopal Cemetery in Scotland Neck, NC Wednesday, December 31, 2014, at 11:00 am.

For those not familiar with the Scotland Neck area, you are welcome to meet at the funeral home no later than 10:00 am, where a member of the funeral home staff will lead you to the cemetery.

Charles Monroe Ferguson

Charles Monroe Ferguson, died January 7, 2015.  

He was born July 23, 1942 to Jasper Monroe and Mary Gray Ferguson.  

He was raised on the family farm in Northampton County.  He was a farmer, plumber and truck driver during his life span.

 In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his sister Minnie Joe Lynch.  

He is survived by his children, Warner Monroe and wife Charlotte of Gaston; Laura Dickens of Gaston; and Charles Thomas and wife Ashley of Virginia Beach; 9 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; two sisters Frances Carrol of Gaston; and Eva Clyde Butler of Richmond, Va.  

He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.  He had many Facebook friends that he enjoyed conversing with.

 The family will have a private service at a later date.

Marilyn Shelton Kirkland

Marilyn Shelton Kirkland, 58, of Roanoke Rapids passed away Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Vidant Inpatient Hospice Center in Greenville.  

Marilyn was born September 1, 1956 in Halifax County to the late Louis and Irene Hunt Shelton.  

She was an extremely likeable person, a great seamstress, and a friend to many.

She loved to fish and spent many hours doing so.  

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her son Benjamin Eric Bryant; her brother Robert Shelton; and her sister Ann S. Rasnake.

Marilyn is survived by her husband Ronald Kirkland; her step-son Travis Hartsoe; her brother Wade Shelton; her special friend and confidant Lois Jones; two very special sister-in-laws, Nora Shelton; and Penny Claiborne; special niece Hunter Marie Peterson.  She is also survived by several nieces and nephews; and her cats Patches and Rusty.  

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.  

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to United Hospice 301 S. Church St. Suite 122 Rocky Mount, NC 27804.

Franklin D. 'Frank' Wheeler

Franklin D. “Frank” Wheeler, 81 of Halifax, NC passed away Sunday, January 18, 2015 at the Durham VA Medical Center in Durham, NC.


Frank was born January 7, 1934 in Halifax County to the late Garland Wheeler and Sarah Carpenter Wheeler.  

He was also preceded in death by a daughter: Penny Wheeler Jennings, his sisters: Mary Nellie Wheeler Seward and husband Erby C., Ida Elizabeth “Liz” Fitts and husband Oliver; his brothers: Leon earl Wheeler, Harry Gene Wheeler and Garland Wilson Wheeler; his brother-in-laws: Charles W. Harlow and Charles Davis.

Frank was a member of Harvest Temple Pentecostal Holiness Church.  He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.  

Frank attended William R. Davie, helped organize Davie Volunteer Fire Department and was an avid hunter.  He retired from JP Stevens and Bibb Company after 40 plus years of service.

Frank is survived by his wife Joan of the home; his special companion “Toby”; his daughter: Peggy Bulluck and her husband Bruce of Nashville, NC; son-in-law: David W. Jennings of Washington, NC; his sisters-in-law: Inez C. Wheeler and Sarah C. Wheeler of Roanoke Rapids, Marguerite B. Wheeler of Halifax, Yvonnie Davis of Newport News, Va and Barbara Harlow of Wilmington, NC; his grandchildren: Carla Leigh Freeman Moore, Leann Jennings Tucker and her husband Jake, Andrew Jennings and Melissa Jennings; his great grandchildren: Makaleigh Wynn Moore, Ryne Harlow Moore, Taylor-Jane O’Neil and Melody Annaleigh Tucker; and a special friend Lindburgh Harlow.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at Harvest Temple Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Norwood starling officiating.  Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Weldon with Military graveside rites.  The family will receive friends from 6:30 – 8:30 P.M. Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service and other times at the home.

Suiter Lindbergh Harlow

Suiter Lindbergh Harlow, 87 of Elm Street Weldon passed away Thursday, January 22, 2015 at home.

Lindbergh was born July 3, 1927 in Halifax County to the late Anthony and Lilly Harlow.  He was also preceded in death by his grandson: Chris Harlow; his granddaughter: Debbie Rooker: a special friend Frank Wheeler.

Lindbergh retired from NC Department of Transportation, Division of Highways.  He was a past member and honorary member of the Weldon Fire Department and retired Woodman of the World member.  Lindbergh also enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid outdoorsman.  Lindbergh was also an Army Veteran of WWII.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years Rena L. Harlow; his sons: John R. Harlow and his wife Rebecca of Troy, Al, Suiter L. Harlow, Jr. and his wife Gloria of Weldon, Robert G. Harlow of Alamogordo, NM; his daughter: Brenda Jones and her husband Gregory of Scotland Neck; his grandchildren: Tonya Simpson, Charles M. Best, Troy A. Harlow, Craig Harlow and Steve Jones; his great grandchildren: Daniel Barnes, Steven Harlow, Kailey Best, Kelsey Best, Adaijah Evans, Carter Harlow, Taylor Jones, Elliott Jones, Whitney Green, Blake Green and Hannah Rooker; his sister: Midget Gamage of Big Island, VA; a special friend Troy Rogers.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Crestview Memorial  Cemetery with Rev. Tony Smith officiating.  The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 9:00 P.M. Friday, January 23, 2015 at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service and other times at the home.

Justin Scott 'Peanut' Price Sr.

Justin Scott “Peanut” Price Sr., 25, died Wednesday, January 21, 2015.

Justin was born October 10, 1989 in Nash County.

Justin was a very happy loving father and son.

He is preceded in death by his aunt Glenda Meadows Jenkins.

He is survived by his mother Mary Beth Price of Nash County; his father and step-mother Donald J. and Susan Price of Cayce, SC; his wife Lindsey Elizabeth Price; and his sons Justin Scott Price, Jr. and Aiden James Price all of Rocky Mount; his brothers Christopher James Price and Jonathan Clark Price both of Nash County; and Wesley Porch of Cayce, SC; his sister Krista Ann White; 3 nieces Gracie White; Kaylee White; and Elizabeth Price all of Nash County. Justin is also survived by his father & mother-in-law Terry & Rena Sherrod of Rocky Mount; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 25, 2015 at 3:00 PM at South Rosemary Baptist Church with Rev. Ray Price officiating.

Burial will follow in the Love-Allen Cemetery.

The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church beginning at 2:00 PM.

Marie Sasser Wall

Marie Sasser Wall, 98, died Saturday, January 24, 2015, at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Wall was born September 28, 1916, in Virginia to the late William Sasser and Rose Ella Smith Sasser.  She has been a member of New Hope United Methodist Church since 1949.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Wall was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Milton Wall; sons, Terry A. Babb and Clarence D. Wall; daughter, Martha B. Waters and nine brothers and sisters.  

Surviving are seven grandchildren, Nancy Lasater, Jonathan Babb, Meredith Burke, Michael Wall, Timothy Wall, Steven Wall and Angela Wall.  Also surviving are many great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, January 28, 2015, at New Hope United Methodist Church at 2:00 pm with Rev. Sue Owens officiating.   The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service beginning at 12:30 pm.   

In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial contributions be made to New Hope United Methodist Church, PO Box 2117, Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870.

Ann W. Johnson

Ann W. Johnson, 85 of Roanoke Rapids passed away Monday, January 26, 2015 at her daughter’s home.

Mrs. Johnson was born December 12, 1929 in Tampa, FL to the late Raymond Wakeley and Wilhelmina Schmidt Wakeley.  She was also preceded in death by her husband: Robert H. Johnson; her daughter: Susan Gay Johnson; her sister: Gertrude Wakeley and her brother: Raymond Wakeley, Jr.

She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Gaston, NC with Pastor Wes Agee.  

She moved to Roanoke Rapids, NC twenty two years ago and made it her home.  

She became an active member of the community by volunteering of herself to many organizations.  

As a lifetime member of the Halifax County Humane Society she helped with the Pet Christmas tree fund raiser every year at the mall.  She also set out several dozen dog banks in various businesses in the county and collected the donations to give to the Halifax Humane Society to help feed and house the abandoned dogs and cats at the shelter.  

Ann loved volunteering at Halifax Regional Medical Center at the front desk greeting visitors, and the Roanoke Rapids Women’s Club.  

She received a plaque from Governor Mike Easley for the North Carolina Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service as recognition and appreciation of her volunteerism. She was also the first recipient of the Angel on Earth award from the Roanoke Rapids Women’s Club for her dedication, enthusiasm, energy, and caring for club projects and countless other causes.  

Ann was also a member of the Progressive Senior’s Club and loved attending the meetings with her friends and playing Wednesday afternoon Bingo with them.  

She was a great role model for her family.  

She was not only our mom, but our friend and confident and our shelter during life’s storms.  Ann never met a stranger, just ask anyone in line at Wal-Mart.  She was always grateful and appreciative for everything that was done for her and thanked and loved everyone, always making sure that you ate and didn’t go hungry.

Left to cherish her love and memories are her daughters,  Sheila A. Annazone and her husband Peter of North Fort Myers, FL,  Sandra J. Showalter (Mike) of Roanoke Rapids,  Sharon L. Mohler and her husband Duane of Byron, GA,  Sylvia R. Rice and her husband Rich of Brooksville, FL, her adopted daughter, Betty Shaw (Jimmy) of Roanoke Rapids;  her grandchildren: Susan Anderson of Roanoke Rapids, Dawn Snyder, of Ga., Yvonne Housman of Kentucky and Morgan Wright of Florida; five great grandchildren; number of nieces and nephews; and very, special friends: Robert “Neighbor” Joyner, Nancy Wehner and Ruth Parker; and her beloved special companions: Rebel, Dixie and Baby.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Sunday, February 1, 2015 at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service with Pastor Wes Agee officiating.  Entombment will follow at Crestview Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Saturday, January 31, 2015 at the funeral home and other times at the home of her daughter Sandy Showalter.

James Edward 'Jimmie' Hockaday Sr.

James Edward 'Jimmie' Hockaday Sr.

James Edward “Jimmie” Hockaday, Sr., 85, of Roanoke Rapids passed away Friday, January 30, 2015 at his home.  

He was born March 13, 1929 in Halifax County to the late Hugh F. and Maggie Williams Hockaday.  

Jimmie was in the Army and fought on the front lines during the Korean War as a machine gunner.

 He married Nora Elizabeth Iles in 1958 and had three children, two boys and a girl.  

He was a major contributor to the creation of Halifax Academy, with he and his father building the first buildings on the property.

 Jimmie was a master carpenter, building many of the homes in the Littleton and Roanoke Rapids area.

 He also did drafting work, designing most of the homes that he built.

 In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his sisters Mary Rebecca Hockaday and Dorothy Louise Hockaday; and his niece Sharon Aldenderfer.  

He is survived by his wife Nora Elizabeth “Libby” Iles Hockaday; his sons James E. “Jamie” Hockaday, Jr. and wife Julia; Charles Christopher Hockaday and partner Steven Green; his daughter Nora Leigh Labrecque and husband Randy; his grandchildren Cindy Blackmon and husband Justin; Ryan Hockaday; Eric Hockaday; and Mary Beth Labrecque; and his niece Carol Simmons and husband Robert.  

Mr. Hockaday is also survived by his brother and sisters-in-law and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 2. 2015 at 2:00 PM at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service with Rev. Mike Currin officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.  

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, February 1, 2015 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM and all other times at the home.  

Memorial Donations may be made to Home Health and Hospice of Halifax 220 Smith Church Rd. Building C Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870.

Virginia Mae Robertson Griffin

Virginia Mae Robertson Griffin, 69, of Roanoke Rapids, passed away Saturday, January 31, 2015 at her home.  

Mrs. Griffin was born August 13, 1945 in Warren County to the late Nathaniel Jordan Robertson and Alice Mae Whitby Robertson.  

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  

Mrs. Griffin was of the Baptist faith and served as president of the Gideon Auxillary.  

She aslo served as choir director and loved singing in the choir and in a singing group.  

She was an avid volunteer in the community and in schools.  

She loved camping, sewing, quilting, and helping others.  

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a sister Margaret Seuis.  

Mrs. Griffin is survived by her husband Calvin of the home; her children Robin Edwards and husband Ricky; Sallie Smiley and husband H.A. all of Littleton; Nat West and wife Lisa of North Wilkesboro; Tammy Evans and husband Arthur of Vaughan; and Calvin Griffin and Donna of Gloucester, Va.  She is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and her brother Macon Robertson and wife Vonnete of Macon; and several nieces.  

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 5, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Enterprise Baptist Church, 404 Enterprise Rd. Littleton, NC 27850 with Rev. Rob Evans and Dr. Dennis Gregory officiating.  

Burial will follow in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery 3902 Hwy. 158 Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870.  

The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 4, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service and all other times at the home.

Donald O'Neal 'Boodley' Hart

Donald O’Neal “Boodley” Hart, 75, flew home with the angels on February 12, 2015.

He was born October 27, 1939 to the late Herbert Russell Hart and Annie Maude White Hart of Emporia Va.  

He loved music of all kinds but especially blues and rock.  He also loved to fly airplanes with his brother Sherman Hart.  

“Boodley” was loved by many and loved many unconditionally; he is and will be missed and remembered forever.

 In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brothers Sherman Hart of Virginia Beach, Va.; H. Russell Hart, Jr. of Richmond, Va.; sisters Hazel Ramsey of Ashland, Va.; Shirley Norwood of Emporia, Va.; Nancy Hart of Georgia; and Jean H. Hammond of Roanoke Rapids, NC.  

“Boodley” resided at 111 Gardner Dr. in Roanoke Rapids with his niece Barbara Pearson and husband Benny.  

He was a beloved uncle, great uncle and great-great uncle to many.  He was closest to his great niece Andrea Pearson and her children Alijah Hamilton and Nolyn Pearson; his great nephew Marcus Pearson and wife Misty and their children Dustin, Morgan, and Jordon.  

He loved his family to no end.  

A memorial service will be held Sunday, February 15, 2015 at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service at 2:00 PM.

Vergie King Barnes, 91, died Tuesday, February 10, 2015, at Hampton Manor in Gaston.

Mrs. Barnes was born June 10, 1923 in Ebony, VA to the late Thomas G. Jones and Sally Laura Rooker Jones.  She was a member of the Church of God in Roanoke Rapids.  She loved cooking and loved her family and friends.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Barnes was preceded in death by husbands, Acie Barnes, Thomas King and Clifton T. Barnes; sister, Ada Burton and brothers, Macon Jones, Ladd Jones and Plum Jones.

Surviving are her sister Bernice Taylor of Ebony, VA; brothers, Herman Jones of LaCrosse, VA and Johnnie Jones; step-daughter, Mary Lou Barnes of Roanoke Rapids; step-grandson, Timothy Travelstead and step-granddaughter, Tammy Massengale.  Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephew.

The family will receive friends at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service, who is handling arrangements, Friday, February 13, 2015, from 7-8:30 pm.  Graveside services will be held at Lake Gaston Christian Life Center Cemetery (Ebony Assembly of God), 1411 Robinson Ferry Rd, Ebony, VA 23845, Saturday, February 14, 2015, at 2:00 pm.

Grady Wilson 'Buddy' Keeter Sr.

Grady Wilson “Buddy” Keeter, Sr., 88 of Roanoke Rapids died Monday, February 23, 2015 at Signature Healthcare in Roanoke Rapids.

Mr. Keeter was born July 7, 1926 to the late Lonnie Joe Keeter, Sr. and Fannie Haislip Keeter.  He was also preceded in death by his wife: Shirley Barfield Keeter; his sisters: Margaret Keeter, Lucy Barkley, Edith Rook; his brothers: Lonnie Joe Keeter, Jr., Robert Keeter; his special friend Catherine Dickens.

He was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church, U. S. Navy veteran of World War II, Amvets Post 320, Shaw-May American Legion Posts 38, Progressive Senior Citizens and Roanoke Rapids Singles Club.

Mr. Keeter is survived by his son: Grady Keeter, Jr of Roanoke Rapids; his brother: Cleveland Keeter and his wife Barbara of Roanoke Rapids; his sisters:  Frances Crawford and Gladys Wells of Roanoke Rapids, Genevieve Eason of Glouster Point, VA; his sister –in-law: Dorothy “Dot” Keeter of Newport News, VA;a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Maranatha Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Little officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:30 P.M.  Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service and other times at the home of his sister, Frances Crawford.

Michael Anthony Barrett

Michael Anthony Barnett, 51, passed away, Saturday, February 21, 2015.  

Michael was born February 25, 1963 in Halifax County to William Cecil and Jo Anne Carver Barnett.  

Michael was a fine man, who was very outgoing.  

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and cooking.

Michael was also very loving and caring.  

He is preceded in death by his grandparents D.A. and Pauline Green Barnett; and William E. and Beulah Ethel Carver; and a number of aunts and uncles.  

In addition to his parents, Michael is survived by his brother William Cecil Barnett, Jr. and wife Shanda of Raleigh; and his sister Barbara Jo Barnett Hough and husband Woody of Pinehurst.  He is also survived by 3 nephews; 1 niece; and a number of friends.  

A memorial service will be held Thursday, February 26, 2015 at 6:00 PM at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service with Rev. Michael Little officiating.

Services for Grady Keeter Sr. will be Tuesday at 2 p.m.

Stephen Lester Strickland, 61, of Roanoke Rapids died Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.  

Steve was born June 16, 1953 in Halifax County to the late Lester and Eleanor Sullivan Strickland.  

Steve played football at NC State. Steve attended Roanoke Rapids High School and was a star football player. He was recruited by and played football at NC State.

Steve was a loving husband and a great friend and mentor to many.

He loved helping people and tried to make them feel happy. He always had a joke to tell.

Steve helped establish the Roanoke Valley Adult Day Center in Weldon and served on the Board of Directors.

Steve’s passion was fishing and he loved the outdoors.

Steve is survived by his wife Donna Bruce Strickland of Roanoke Rapids; his step-children Dodi Tolbert of Little River, MD; Tracy Olesnevich of Roanoke Rapids; Conner Bruce and Duncan Bruce both of Durham, NC; his brother Gary Strickland of FL; and his sister Susan Strickland Rose of Clayton, NC.  He is also survived by his nieces Jennifer Finnegan; Ashley Kirk; and Samantha Finnegan.

 A memorial service celebrating his life will be held Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service at 6:00 PM.

The family is recieving guests at the home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Roanoke Valley Adult Day Center 108 East 1stSt. Weldon, NC 27890.

Stanley Mason Johnson Sr.

Stanley Mason Johnson, Sr., 87, of Littleton, NC passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at Stratford Assisted Living in Chapel Hill.

Mr. Johnson was born April 25, 1927 in Halifax County to the late Joseph E. Johnson and Lillie Vaughan Johnson.

He was also preceded in death by his brothers: James E. Johnson, Amos Johnson, Julian Johnson and Roger Johnson; his sister: Elsie Tudor.

He was a member of Lakeview Park Baptist Church and he worked with all types of string instruments.  He loved bluegrass and country music.

He is survived by his wife Peggy Jean Liles Johnson; his son: Stanley Mason Johnson, Jr.; his daughter Peggy Jo Johnson Stowe; his sister Barbara Andrews; his grandchildren: Shelley Stowe Platz and her husband Shane, Anne Lynne Johnson Whitby and her husband Jason, Joseph Liles Johnson, Christopher Taylor Johnson and Alicia Hurst; her great grandchildren: Hailey Marie Whitby, Breanna Jade Whitby and Jessica Rayne Whitby.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at Cedarwood Cemetery with Rev. Randy Martin officiating.
