Andrew Michael Lyle

Andrew Michael Lyle

God’s special miracle, Andrew Michael Lyle, who was given to us 24 years ago on March 8, 1991, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.  

Andrew was born in Orange County, NC to Lisa Cannon Lyle and Donald Peter Lyle.  

He was a “die hard” Tarheel fan and Nascar fan.  

He was the recipient of the 2007 Herald Angel and attended East Tenth Street Church of Christ where he loved his church family.  

Andrew loved life, visiting and socializing with everyone; Andrew never met a stranger.  

Preceding Andrew in death was his grandfather, Cecil J. Cannon, great grandmother, Pearlie W. Futrell and great grandfather, James Clyde Futrell.

Surviving is his mother, Lisa C. Lyle and special friend, Tim Hammack of Roanoke Rapids; special grandmother, Ruth F. Cannon of Roanoke Rapids; aunt and uncle, Cheryl and Gwynn Lucas; cousin, Skylar Lucas, all of Pelham, NC; great aunt and uncle, Ruby and Wilbur Floyd of Roanoke Rapids; great uncle, Malcom T. Cannon of Richmond, VA; great aunt and uncle, Phyllis and W.Jr. Brockwell of Lawrenceville, VA.  Also surviving is a special loving caregiver of 12 years, Jackie Bowser.

The family would like to extend a special and heart felt thank you for the wonderful care given to Andrew by the staff at Halifax Regional Medical Center, the Wound Center, UNC Hospitals, Home Health and Hospice, Dr. Robert Campbell, who invented the titanium rod from which Andrew benefitted, Cardinal Innovation, his case worker, Angela Silver and staff and Maxim Health Care in Louisburg, NC.  

The family will receive friends at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service, who is handling arrangements, Friday, June 26, 2015, from 7-8:30 pm. Dave Chapman, Minister, will conduct funeral services Saturday, June 27, 2015, at 2:00 pm at East Tenth Church of Christ with interment to follow in Old Cedarwood Cemetery.

Billy Ray Walker Sr.

Billy Ray Walker, Sr., 69, died Saturday, June 27, 2015, at Wake Med in Raleigh.

Billy was born in Halifax County, June 3, 1946, to the late Bonner Richard and Lona Williams Walker.  

He was a veteran having served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Conflict.  

In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his brothers, James R. and Clarence Walker, and his sister, Dorothy Jenkins.  

Surviving is his wife, Judith Ann Walker of the home; son, Billy Ray Walker, Jr.; daughters, Tammy Overton and husband, Joseph, and Tina Walker Ogden and husband, Lenny, all of Roanoke Rapids; sister, Rena Harlow of Weldon; grandchildren, John David Overton and Sara Beth Overton.  Also, surviving are several nieces and nephews.  

The family will receive friends at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service, who is handling arrangements, Wednesday, July 1, 2015 from 7:00-8:30 pm.  Rev. D.A. Leonard will conduct a memorial service to celebrate Billy’s life Thursday, July 2, 2015 in the chapel at Hockaday beginning at 11:00 am.  In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be made to a Disabled Veteran or Wounded Warrior Charity of ones chose.

Mary Pearson Duke

Mary Pearson Duke

Mary Pearson Duke, 88, of Stephens Street, Roanoke Rapids passed away Sunday, June 28, 2015 at Signature Healthcare in Roanoke Rapids.

Mrs. Duke was born December 30, 1926 in Brunswick County, VA to the late James Thomas Pearson and Ida Louise Williams Pearson.  She was also preceded in death by her husband: Kelly Duke; her sisters: Polly Finch and Christine Callihan.

Mrs. Duke was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She was a founding member of South Rosemary United Methodist Church, where she was active in the United Methodist Women and loved participating in the “kitchen Ministries” program they have.  Mrs. Duke retired from JP Stevens and Bibb Company after 31 years.

She is survived by her son: Craig Duke and his wife Gail of Roanoke Rapids; her nephew: Jimmy Duke and his wife Patsy of Rocky Mount; her niece: Carla Little and her husband Terry of Littleton; her sister Jean Hedgepeth of Norfolk, VA; her granddaughter: Stephanie Robbins and her husband Robbie of Littleton; several great nieces and nephews; and two special friends from church Mamie Rhome and Joyce Davis.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service with Rev. Sue Owens and Nelson High, CLM officiating.  Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 30, 2015 from 7:00 – 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home and other times at her home.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to South Rosemary United Methodist Church or Kitchen Ministry, 108 West Littleton Road, Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870.

Elvin Foy Queen, Jr. 64 of Westwood Drive, Roanoke Rapids passed away Friday, July 3, 2015 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Elvin was born October 20, 1950 in Mecklenburg County, VA to Elvin Foy Queen, Sr. and Virginia Edmonds Queen.  He was preceded in death by his father.

Elvin was a member of Victory Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.  He enjoyed running and bicycling and once completed a half marathon with his son Clint.

He is survived by his wife Kathy Queen of the home; his mother: Virginia “Lois” Edmonds Queen of Kernersville; his children: Clint Queen and his wife Kristy of Kernersville, Randy Keeton and his wife Amy and Stacy Keeter and her husband Bradley both of Roanoke Rapids; his brothers and sisters: Barbara Tucker and Ronnie Queen both of Kernersville and Sandy Fowler of Winston-Salem; his grandchildren: Garrison and Greg Queen, Trenten, Sami and Raylin Keeton, Landen, Logan, Lily and Lawsen Keeter and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Monday, July 6, 2015 at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service with Rev. Jeremy Kobernat officiating.  Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:30 P.M. Sunday, July 5, 2015 at the funeral home and other times at the home.

Louis Weathers Hawkins

Louis Weathers Hawkins, 81, died Saturday, July 4, 2015, at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Hawkins was born, February 12, 1934, in Halifax County, to the late Clarence Hawkins and Beatrice Hawkins.  

He was a veteran having served with the United States Army and was a lifelong member of Hawkins Chapel United Methodist Church.  

He enjoyed being outside and working on tractors and lawn mowers and this gave way to him becoming known as “the neighborhood repairman.” Mr. Hawkins loved his family and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Surviving is the love of his life, his wife of 57 years, Julia Pittard Hawkins of the home; daughters, Joy Harvell and husband, Robert, of Weldon, Linda Hawkins of the home, and Susan Wells and husband, David, of Littleton; sister, Louise Powell of Roanoke Rapids; grandson, Robbie Harvell and wife Sarah and great-granddaughter, Addison.  Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service Tuesday, July 7, 2015, from 7:00-8:30 pm and all other times at the home. Rev. Sid Collins will conduct funeral services at Hawkins Chapel United Methodist Church Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at 2:00 pm with interment to follow in the church cemetery.

Thomas William Claiborne Sr.

Thomas William Claiborne, Sr., 74, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, died Tuesday, July 7, 2015.

Thomas was born in Northampton County, April 25, 1941, to the late Loyde Hawthorne, Sr. and Charlotte Gertrude Weene Claiborne.  

He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was a man who was very caring and would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need.  

He was a hard worker who looked after and provided for his family whom he loved more than life.  

Thomas was an avid sports fan and especially loved Nascar.

In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by his sons, Steven and Michael Claiborne; daughter, Tracy Miles; brothers, Lloyd Sr., Rosser Lee and Robert Claiborne; sisters, Vivian Clements, Kathleen Rook and Muriel Burnette.

 Surviving is his wife, Tonya Parrish Claiborne; sons, Thomas William Claiborne, Jr., Tim Nelson and wife, Patty and Thad Nelson and special friend, Michelle Gray; daughters, Kimberly Nicholson, Tammy Strickland and husband, Ty, and Tina Lillibridge and husband, James and sister, Juliet Howard.  Also surviving is his sister-in-law, Mary Catherine Claiborne and several grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Rev. Randy Martin will conduct funeral services at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service Monday, July 13, 2015, at 11:00 am.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service also at the funeral home, beginning at 10:00 am and all other times at the home of Kathy Heath, 1133 Charlotte St. Roanoke Rapids.

Daisy Matthews Conner

Daisy Matthews Conner, 97, died Friday, July 17, 2015, in Breckenridge Retirement Center in Rocky Mount.

Mrs. Conner was born January 27, 1918, in Crichton, VA, to the late Willie and Annie Jones Matthews.

She was a member of South Rosemary Methodist Church.

After many years of service, she retired from the Halifax County Schools Nutrition Program in 1984.

She enjoyed baking breads and desserts for students at Aurelian Springs and Northwest High School.

Her great joy was preparing food for others who weren’t able to prepare meals for themselves.

When she was no longer able to live alone, she became a resident of the Bayberry Inn in Roanoke Rapids.

She spent the last two years at Breckenridge Retirement Center in Rocky Mount.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Conner was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Huff Conner; nine brothers and sisters and two sons, James Willie Conner and Richard Wayne Conner.

Surviving are daughter, Diane Conner Dickens and husband, Sammy, of Littleton, and son, Huff Wilson Conner and wife, Ruby, of Kinston; sister, Barbara Ann Matthews of LaCrosse, VA; eight grandchildren, Michelle Conner Sutton and husband, Brent and Lynn Conner Vinson and husband, Rod, all of Kinston, Dawn Conner White and husband, Chris of Winston-Salem, Michael Conner and wife, Megan of Red Oak, Matthew Dickens and wife, Jewel, of Youngsville, Jessica Dickens Hamill and husband, Brent, and Sam Conner and wife, Angie, all of Littleton, Wendy Conner Jenkins and husband, Gary of Roanoke Rapids.

Also surviving are sixteen great- grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Rev. Sue Owens will conduct a graveside service Sunday, July 19, 2015 at 3:00 pm at Crestview Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the graveside service at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service beginning at 1:30 pm and all other times at the home of her daughter, Diane Conner Dickens, 8733 Hwy 48, Littleton, NC.

Phyllis Estelle Cain

Phyllis Estelle Cain, 77, born in Bermuda and became a US citizen later in life, died Thursday, July 23, 2015, in UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.

Phyllis believed in giving to those in need and had a charitable heart.

She touched many lives and will forever be remembered, treasured and loved.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, David C. Cain, Sr.; six children, Judy Willis, Kathy Holland and husband, Larry, David C. Cain, Jr. and finance, Linda Briley, Sandy Catanese and husband, Tony, Michael Cain and wife, Lisa and Anthony Cain and his fiancé Rebecca Smith; three sisters, Joan Munro, Ann Taylor, and Diane Berning. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to: Make A Wish America, 4742 N. 24th St. Suite 400, Phoenix, AZ 85016 or The American Cancer Society, 250 Williams Street, Atlanta, GA 30303.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the doctors and staff at UNC Chapel Hill ICU for treating her with grace and dignity.

The family will have a memorial service to celebrate Phyllis’ life at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service Monday, July 27, 2015 at 2:00 pm.

A visitation will be held one hour prior to services beginning at 1:00 pm.

William 'Bill' Braswell

MSgt William (Bill) Braswell, USAF Retired, 87, passed away July 7, 2015 at his home in Surf City, NC.

Bill was born March 19, 1928 in Roanoke Rapids to the late Needham and Annie Braswell. He was also preceded in death by his brothers: Aaron Braswell and Lewis Braswell; his sisters: MayBelle Gurley, Estelle Oakley, Bertha Ramsey and Martha (Lady) Baker.

Bill is survived by his wife: Emily S. Braswell of Surf City, NC; his son: Michael Braswell (Agnes) of Plano, TX; his granddaughter: Nicole Harper (Jessie) of Beaverton, MI; his sister: Rachel Barton (Bob) of Hastings, MI; and several nieces and nephews.

Bill served 261/2 years in the US Military, 71/2 years in the US Navy and 19 years in the US Air Force, during which he served in combat in Korea and Vietnam. After retiring from the military he work 14 years at Square D Electric Corp in Knightdale, NC where he also retired. Since 1986 he has made his home in Surf City by the ocean which he loved, with his loving wife of 61 years.

A Memorial graveside service will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at Old Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids with Rev. Sue Owens officiating.

Mack Ray Smith, 86 of Creekridge Drive, Rocky Mount passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at his home.

Mr. Smith was born March 1, 1929 in Halifax County to the late Joe Billy Smith and Cinderella Wood Smith. He was also preceded in death by his brothers: Lynn Justice Smith, Acey Thomas Smith and James Smith. Mack was a member of Weaver’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Littleton and retired from CSX after over 40 years.

He is survived by his wife: Clyde Virginia Smith; his son: Wade Ray Smith; his daughter: JoAnne S. Wells and her husband Duane; his brother: J.B. Smith and his wife Shirley; his sisters: Josephine Myrick and Virginia Lea Johnston; three grandchildren: Sara Johnston, Matthew Wells and his wife Keesha and Dawn Maynard and her husband B.J.; his great grandchildren: Ethan, Jake, Aidan, Tye, Ben, Luke, Emily, Jack and Mia.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 15, 2015 at Weaver’s Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Stan Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. – 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the church.

Ruby Isles Wells, 77 of Hwy 48, Littleton passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at her home.

Ruby was born November 20, 1937 to the late Hubert H. Isles and Pattie Hawkins Isles. She was also preceded in death by her longtime companion and friend: “Bob” Clark.

Ruby was a member of Tabor United Methodist Church.

Ruby was a loving mother and friend to Brenda, she loved sewing, making clothes, cooking and canning.

She retired from Halifax County School System as a cafeteria worker.

Ruby is survived by her daughter: Brenda Wells of the home; her nephew and nieces: H.L. Liles and his wife Barbara of Zebulon, Barbara Ann Green and her husband Henry of Roanoke Rapids, Rose Marie Inscoe and her husband C.D., Jr. of Littleton, Ava Etheridge and her husband Johnny of Youngsville, Linda Pittard and her husband Douglas and Jenny Sue King both of Littleton; her special family Robert Clark and his wife Patricia, Sue Turner and her husband Charles, Sam Clark and his wife Linda and Johnny Clark and his wife Debbie; number of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; special friends: Janet Aycock and Faye High; special caregiver: Barbara Vincent.

Ellis 'Bubba' Cecil Williamson

Ellis “Bubba” Cecil Williamson, 58, Roanoke Rapids passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at his home.

Bubba was born January 29, 1957 in Portsmouth, VA to the late Osrow Eli Williamson and Mary Elizabeth “Lib” Bailey Willis. He was also preceded in death by his step-father: Carl Willis; his maternal grandparents: Hattie and Dewey Bailey.

Bubba was a faithful church member of Fresh Fire Assembly of God. He was a loving husband, father, and Pa to his grandchildren and numerous other children. Bubba loved cooking, camping, hunting and cutting grass. He loved people and would give you the shirt off his back.

Bubba is survived by his wife: Penny Bissette Williamson; his daughters: April Williamson Portillo and Christy Williamson and a son-in-law: Ricardo Alfredo Portillo all of Roanoke Rapids; his grandchildren: Ricardo Ellis Williamson Portillo and Victoria Sue Williamson Portillo; his sister: Barbara Durham and her husband Dan of Roanoke Rapids; his adopted family: Dora, Angel and Tatiana Zuniga; a special father-in-law: JC Bissette; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 P.M. Sunday, August 16, 2015 at Fresh Fire Assembly of God, 46 Pittman Court with Pastor Chris Howerton officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. Margie Kathryn Causey Hauck, 77, of Deer Chase Drive, Rocky Mount passed away Saturday, August 15, 2015 at her home.

Margie was born May 19, 1938 in Pitt County to the late Floyd John Causey and Eva Taylor Causey. She was also preceded in death by her husband: William Francis “Bill” Hauck; her brothers: Frank Causey, F.J. Causey, Alvah Causey and Phillip Causey; her sister: Pearlie Braun.

Margie served her country in the United States Air Force and United States Marine Corps. She also loved baking, drinking coffee and watching old movies.

She is survived by her brothers: Louis Causey of Apex, Bruce Causey and his wife Sandra of Winterville, and David Causey of Holly Hill, SC; his sisters: Irene “Peggy” Williams and her husband Bill of Rocky Mount, and Annie Jane Campbell of Annapolis, MD; her sister-in-law: Eleanor Causey of Roanoke Rapids.

Graveside services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

Erma Birdsong Pearson, 86, died Thursday, August 27, 2015, at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Pearson was born October 27, 1928 in Northampton County to the late William Birdsong and Addie Mae Birdsong.

She was a lifelong member at Ebenezer United Methodist Church where she was a member of the United Methodist Women.

She retired from Halifax Regional Medical Center as an LPN and worked at Brunswick Academy.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Pearson was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Thomas Pearson, Sr. and her brother, John Henry Birdsong. Surviving is her son, Walter “Wally” T. Pearson, Jr. and wife, Tammy, of Roanoke Rapids; daughters, Janie Midgette and husband, Jack of Roanoke Rapids, Sandra Kay and husband, Johnny, of Chesterfield, VA, Gail Duke and husband, Craig, of Gaston; sister, Frances Copeland and husband, Whit, of Gaston; grandchildren, Steve Midgette and wife, Andrea, of Roanoke Rapids, April Perry and husband, Cris, of Dallas, GA, John Kay III and wife, Nikki, of Buffalo, NY, Stephanie Robbins and husband, Robbie, of Littleton, Cody and Courtney Pearson of Roanoke Rapids, and Julie Arrington and husband, Todd, of Canton, GA. Also surviving are her great-grandchildren, Jackson and Brayden Midgette, Jaxon Kay, Camren Rossell, Trey and Madelyne Arrington, Tatum and Tyson Perry.

Margie was born March 11, 1939 in Halifax County to the late William Gregory and Virginia Brown Gregory. She was also preceded in death by her husband: Thomas Ray Starke; her sisters: Ellen Harris and Pat Etheridge; her brother: Otis Gregory.
Margie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and pet grandma. She loved cooking and being a homemaker.
She is survived by her children: Kim Johnston and her husband James of the home, Kathy Byrum, Gail Rowland and Becky Clay all of Roanoke Rapids and Dennis Starke of Rocky Mount; three special pets: Toby, Tia and Tyler; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; her brothers: Lee Gregory and his wife Frances and Richard Gregory and his wife Rhonda both of Roanoke Rapids and Robert Earl Gregory of Scottsdale, AZ; her sister: Betty Clary and her husband David of Roanoke Rapids.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service with Dr. Dennis W. Gregory, Sr. officiating.

Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.

Jackie was born October 30, 1938, in Albany, Georgia, to the late Plyler H. May and Emma Lou Frazier.

She loved watching T.V., especially horror movies and going to Walmart.

She dearly loved her son and grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Jackie was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Nelson Shaw and daughter, Beverly Lynn.

Surviving is her son, Craig S. Shaw and wife, Tammy, of Roanoke Rapids; sisters, Chapel Statam and Sybil Rome and husband, Claude, both of Albany GA; granddaughters, Caroline Owen and husband, Tommy, and Harley Tomlinson. Also surviving is her great granddaughter, Mackenzie N. Owen and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Serivce from 7-8:30 pm.

Rev. Sid Collins will conduct funeral services Thursday, September 3, 2015 at 2:00 pm in the chapel at Hockaday with interment to follow in Hawkins Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a special, heartfelt Thank You to the staff and nurses at Community Home Care & Hospice for such loving and compassionate care given to their family.

Barbara Ann Vaughan, 67, died Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Barbara was born June 3, 1948, in Richmond, VA, to the late William Edward Parsley, Sr. and Doris Turner Parsley.

She was a loving sister, mother, and grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Vaughan; son, Donald Ray Vaughan and sister, Linda Powell, her sister, Dorothy Maybush, and brother, Sonny Waller.

Surviving is her son, Lewis Baldwin and special friend, Chrissy Poole, of Roanoke Rapids; brothers, William E. Parsley, Jr. and wife, Brenda, of Chesterfield, VA and David Parsley and wife, Nita, of Roanoke Rapids and granddaughter, Sumer Baldwin of Roanoke Rapids. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Friday, September 4, 2015 from 6-8 pm at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service.

Pastor Maurice Wheat will conduct funeral services Saturday, September 5, 2015, at Central Baptist Church at 11:00 am.

Martha Hall Bradshaw

Martha Hall Bradshaw, 93, of White Stone, VA., formerly of Roanoke Rapids, died September 8, 2015, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Meredithville, VA, the youngest of fifteen children born to Tom and Ola Giles Hall.

She was preceded in death in 2005 by her husband of sixty-three years, Arthur Lee Bradshaw.

Martha was an active member of Rosemary United Methodist Church throughout her life, and loved the church until the day she died. She was a Sunday School teacher, chair of the Cameron Hasty Circle, a choir member, an MYF counselor, and Lay Leader.

In 1995, she was awarded The Administrative Board Service Award, and in 1996 was Lay Person of the year. She was also awarded lifetime membership in United Methodist Women.

She was an active volunteer for many years at Guardian Care Nursing Home, where she did whatever she could to bring a smile to residents’ faces.

In 1992, she was recognized for “25 years of devoted and caring volunteer services to the residents of Guardian Care."

Also in 1992, she received The Governor’s Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service from Governor Jim Martin.

In 2001, she received a Special Recognition Award as Adult Volunteer of the Year from the North Carolina Healthcare Facilities Association.

Her favorite award, however, was the establishment in 2002 of the Martha Bradshaw Courtyard at Guardian Care for 35 years of volunteer service.

She is survived by her daughter, Gail Cameron and husband, Roy of White Stone, VA.; granddaughter Jennifer Newsome and husband, Mark, of Burlington, N.C.; step-granddaughter Beth Cameron of Richmond, VA., step-grandson Wade Cameron and wife Jenni of Richmond, VA., great-grandchildren Veronica, Cecilia, and Becket Newsome, and step-great-grandchildren Carrie Beth and Laurel Cameron. She will also be missed by a multitude of nieces and nephews who were greatly loved and returned that love to her in numerous ways in her last years.

Visitation will be held from 6-8; 30 pm on Friday, September 11, at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 on Saturday, September 12, at Rosemary United Methodist Church in Roanoke Rapids.

Curtis Lynn 'Cookie Monster' Cook

Curtis Lynn “Cookie Monster” Cook, 68, of Gardner Drive, Gaston passed away Thursday, September 10, 2015.

Lynn was born October 7, 1946 in Northampton County, NC to the late Curtis Lee Cook and Florentine “Tina” Moore Cook. Lynn was also preceded in death by his brothers: Walter Lee “Billy” Cook and Lawrence Drexel “Happy” Cook.

Lynn was survived by three nephews: Greg Cook, Chris Cook and Wayne Narron; He was also survived by many great and loving cousins; five great and loving friends: Jeanne Mills, Vickie Todd, Bernice Bailey and Maria Taylor his adopted sister, and a very special friend Linda Liverman.

Memorial services will be held 12:00 P.M. Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Victory Baptist Church with Rev. Jeremy Kobernat and Rev. Randy Martin officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 – 12:00 P.M. at the church.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Victory Baptist Church Building Fund, 2360 Bolling Road, Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870.
